Senior Director, Facility Engineering

GENERAL PURPOSE
In this succession-planned and highly influential role, you will help shape the strategic direction of a complex, multi-site facilities program, including 600,000 square feet of NYC office space that supports over 1,500 associates in a nearly $21B company. As a strategic leader with a strong technical foundation, you will oversee both internal teams and external vendors, ensuring seamless operations and continuous improvement of all building systems and infrastructure. This role requires exceptional communication skills, as you will engage regularly with stakeholders at all levels—including the C-suite—while leading the maintenance, operation, and enhancement of facilities throughout the Eastern region, with a primary focus on the New York City office. |
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leadership & Management:
- Lead and manage the facility engineering team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations, as well as administering and coordinating the workload within the Eastern region.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for facility maintenance and improvements.
- Collaborate with senior management to align facility operations with corporate and departmental goals, keeping leadership informed of any critical items or situations that impact the facility, project delivery, or cost.
- Respond to requests for information and assistance from other internal departments and outside vendors and contractors.
- Develop and sustain department standards, helping to maintain and update departmental SOPs, project files, and communications for all aspects of project management and facility upgrades.
Project Management
- Plan and oversee facility improvement projects, including renovations and upgrades, while maintaining detailed knowledge of all assigned projects and schedules.
- Oversee project design for various types of projects, through scoping, test fits, design development, scheduling, estimating, bidding, contract award, cost control, and change management/project accounting, construction, and turnover.
- Develop project budgets; manage and maintain construction budgets and schedules.
- Maintain budgets, payments, and change orders in accordance with departmental policies, facilitating issues regarding payments with vendors.
- Initiate and track Capital Expenditure Requests to ensure timely review and approval.
- Oversee, assess, and negotiate fees for architects, engineers, and other outside consultants and contractors.
- Manage all project and program activities, taking into consideration delivery, schedule, safety, cost, and the project’s ability to meet the end user’s needs.
- Assess the potential risks and impacts of all work on the facility and its associates, identifying, monitoring, and mitigating these risks before they affect building operations.
- Coordinate all work with internal departments and external contractors and vendors to ensure project delivery and completion, while managing projects to minimize disruption to ongoing business activities within the facilities.
- Ensure contractors meet performance standards and complete deliverables on schedule; track the project’s lifecycle and monitor progress against key performance indicators (KPI’s), schedules, and budgets.
- Be available to oversee work at night and on weekends when necessary.
Facility Operations:
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
- Develop and manage the facility’s budget, including forecasting and cost control.
- Ensure the facility complies with all local, state, and federal regulations, including New York City Local Law requirements.
- Troubleshoot facility utility issues and develop strategic plans to facilitate repairs while minimizing disruptions to the operation in the building.
- Develop and maintain an asset life cycle management program, backed by a strategic plan.
- Implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the life of building systems.
Safety and Compliance
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards, ensuring the facility meets all safety standards.
- Ensure projects have proper plans in place for hot work permits, presenting and demonstrating contractor control, wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE), and executing a lockout/tagout program prior to the start of any project.
- Work closely with Loss Prevention/Security Team to ensure the facility meets all security standards, and support the implementation of emergency response plans and procedures (as needed).
Sustainability and Efficiency
- Promote energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives within the facility to meet all NYC local laws; monitor and analyze energy usage, and implement measures to reduce consumption.
- Stay current with industry trends and technologies to enhance facility operations.

BACKGROUND PROFILE
Education/Technical Skills
- B.S degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction with a minimum of 10 – 12 years of project management experience in the office or industrial sectors.
- Prior experience operating facilities and managing projects in New York City with extensive knowledge of the city’s local laws.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection/safety.
- Excellent project management skills with experience managing large-scale facility projects and office fit-outs.
- Experience in project safety

- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally (and confidentially, when needed) at all levels both within the client organization and externally.
- Reliable, self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision on multiple high-priority tasks.
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize these tasks, and follow through to ensure timely results.
- Adept at using the MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Project)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA
- The job requires working in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
- Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, working with paper/files, etc.
- Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
- Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
- This role requires full-time in-office presence, to engage and interact with in-person teams, participate in meetings and collaborate, and support internal clients.
