Director, Strategic Finance

GENERAL PURPOSE:
In this newly created, highly strategic, succession-planned leadership role, you will build a team and be a key trusted advisor to executive leaders, providing them with consultation and insights that will help “connect the dots” to facilitate decision-making for complex multi-year initiatives in a $20B industry-leading company. |
Managing the financials for key strategic expense accounts and complex multi-year capital initiatives within the organization, you will provide thought leadership to Operations business partners, oversee forecasting, budgeting, and planning activities, provide Executive reporting, and drive continuous improvement initiatives, including implementing systems and technology enablers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage monthly forecasts, partnering with Operations business partners to maintain strong financial oversight controls by analyzing monthly and quarterly expense and capital spending variances to address unfavorable trends and drive best-in-class financial management proactively.
- Drive the multi-year financial planning and annual budgeting processes, ensuring plans are based on sound assumptions and are vetted and reviewed by Operations leadership.
- Compare plans to Corporate Finance targets and partner with Operations leadership to identify opportunities to close the gap.
- Partner with Operations business partners to ensure timely completion of deliverables and the “right” level of detail and accuracy.
- Lead the preparation of leadership-level and executive-level presentations and reporting, completing ad hoc follow-up analyses identified from the reports on issues or trends.
- Identify and drive initiatives that improve key processes, including systems/technology enablers that will make expense tracking and financial management more efficient.
- Evaluate current processes, identify areas for continuous operational improvement, and work with Operations leadership and other stakeholders to find the root cause and implement improvements.
- Structure and conduct strategic analyses, as needed, to answer questions about performance, capital spending return on investment, operational issues, and other topics, providing analytical support and scenario analysis to support decision-making.
- Build and develop a high-performing team, coaching and developing them to maximize performance and add value to the company.

BACKGROUND PROFILE:
- A bachelor’s degree is required with demonstrated superior college performance (preferably in an analytical field such as finance, economics, accounting, etc.); a CPA or MBA is preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years post-college experience with demonstrated success at increasing levels of responsibility.
- Strong familiarity with core financial planning and analysis processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial control process design.
- Outstanding analytical ability with a data-driven approach to solving problems. Requires very strong quantitative skills, a good sense of how to dissect problems, and a strong ability to “connect the dots” – e.g., understanding how pieces of data interact with each other or how one finding should inform the result of another analysis.
- Dynamic, intellectually curious, and self-motivated with the business acumen and drive necessary to be part of managing in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- A detail-oriented approach with close attention to details and the drive to get things right.
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills; able to partner effectively with stakeholders across the organization to clearly communicate results and implications of analysis in both verbal and written (PowerPoint) forms.
- Unquestionable personal and professional character and integrity; must be trustworthy with confidential information.
- Track record of successful team development, managing them to high levels of performance and developing them for growth and advancement.
- Relationship Building: able to build effective working relationships with a broad range of people across the organization.
- Strong fundamental business technical skills; proficient in Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn new business process software applications (Hyperion, DART).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
This role requires regular in-office presence, including attending in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.
